Turn Your Notes into Diagrams
One of the most important things you need to do with your notes is to turn them into visuals. You can make a big difference with your memory by creating visuals that you can incorporate into your notes.
Visuals are a good idea because they can be so much easier to recall in your mind during a test than a list of items. Flow charts, webs, and other diagrams can be used to solidify information before the big day.
Look at Previous Assignments and Tests
If you have test prep materials you have used as part of your coursework, it's a good idea to break out the material and review it. Even if you didn't do well on those exams or assignments, you can use them to develop a stronger idea of what might be on the exam.
If you come across questions you answered wrong. Explain to yourself why it's wrong. Better yet, find somebody unfamiliar with the topic so you can explain to them why the answer is wrong and what you should have done to answer the question accurately or more completely.
Make Your Own Flashcards
It's also important that you make flashcards as part of your study. You may be tempted to print cards from the web, but making your own can be much more effective.
Once you make your flashcards, actually use them. Review them regularly, and familiarize yourself with the vocabulary. At the very least, knowing the meaning of the terms used can help you facilitate a better understanding when you are working with the material.
Prepare With a Tutor
Finally, you might consider preparing for a test with a tutor who can help you through some of the challenging topics. For instance, a tutor can help you find new ways to process and absorb information that you otherwise find challenging. Sometimes having a new explanation for the material can be beneficial.
